LL 1368

Information

This vase is made in white jasper which has been dipped in blue jasper. The blue jasper has been cut away in parts using a machine called an enging turning lathe. Decoration in white and green jasper has also been applied. The applied decoration would have been made in moulds and then fixed to the vase. The vase would have been used to hold pot-pourri, a mixture of dried flowers and herbs. It has a pierced lid to allow the perfume of the pot-pourri to escape. Pot-pourri vases were very popular in the eighteenth century, they were used to mask unpleasant smells.
