Vase

LL 1044

Information

This candlestick vase has two uses . It could be used for decoration and it may have been set within a group of items, perhaps above a fireplace on a chimneypiece or in an alcove. However, once the lid was turned over it became a candlestick. The glaze that Wedgwood has used is designed to make the vase look like it has been carved from a hard stone such as granite. The gilded parts of the vase are meant to imitate metal mounts. The vase is one of a pair with LL 1043. They are shown second from the left and second from the right of the photograph.
