Vase
LL 1504
Information
A solid blue jasper vase with white jasper sprigging depicting a group of Bacchanalian boys engaging in horseplay. Sprigging is a type of decoration which is made in a mould and then applied.
The design of the sprigging is based on sketches by Lady Diana Beauclerk (1734-1808), ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales. Lady Beauclerk was a lady of the bedchamber to Queen Charlotte. Wedgwood used her name, as a designer, to impress clients.
