Venus and Cupid in the Clouds
LL 3532
Information
This painting is derived from Boucher's 'L'Amour Désarmé' of 1751 but with considerable variations. One difference is that Cupid still holds his arrow in this painting, while in Boucher's version Venus holds an arrow in one hand and the quiver in the other, shifting the subject slightly. This painting is also in reverse from Boucher's version, suggesting it was made from Etienne Fessard's engraving of 1761 rather than from the painting itself.
