Vessel-stamp

56.21.647

Information

Fragment of a circular stamp with trace of an incised scene in negative (floral pattern). Finger hole on domed side. May have been used to stamp plaster seals of amphora stoppers, rather than cake or bread as described by Petrie in his publication of the excavation (Petrie 1886). Compare with World Museum 9.9.86.56. Given to the East Anglia Egyptian Society by the Egypt Exploration Society. Until 2023 it had been assumed it was from the excavations at Tell el Amarna but without a find number. However, this was from the 'old stock' of the EES and can be traced to the excvavations of Petrie at Naukratis. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Incomplete, pitted, surface dirt.
