Small piece of papyrus mounted on calico. Inscribed in Greek text in 1860 by Constantine Simonides; which he described as being an account of the voyage of Hanno, the 5th/6th century BC Carthagian navigator. The papyrus is most likely ancient but the text is a modern forgery. Signed in ink by Simonides. Marked in pencil R. Back of fabric has in pencil '6 5/8 x 1 1/2' and in the centre at the top 'top'. Papyrus dimensions: 35 mm x 166 mm; calico fabric mount: 167 mm x 36 mm.
