Information
George Mayer-Marton was a Hungarian Jewish artist who was a significant figure in Viennese art between the First and Second World Wars, working in oil, watercolour and graphics. Following his forced emigration to England in 1938, he continued to paint in watercolour and oil. He was alsoa teacher at the Liverpool College of Art from 1952.
His style is influenced by European art. The dreamlike atmosphere of his landscapes is a legacy of Surrealism, whilst his analytical way of seeing the pattern, structure and energy within nature has its origin in cubism. This work was exhibited at the Liverpool Academy open Exhibition in 1958.
