Watercolour No.1 (Psyche at the Well of Forgetfulness)

There is no clear mythological precedent for Psyche coming to a Well of Forgetfulness, but given Psyche's allegorical status as the human soul or spirit, it is possible to assume Macnair's meaning or intention. This is a late work by MacNair and suggests the influence of Frances Macdonald, who produce a series of watercolours around this time wihich are similar stylistically, but more developed and accomplished.
