Information

Waterfront, 1950 Adapted from the John Brophy novel of the same name, Waterfront is a melodrama set within the tightly-knit, overcrowded dockland communities at the end of the First World War. As the city’s maritime fortunes decline, the film reveals the unpredictability and harshness of families whose destinies are tied to the sea. Throughout the film, vistas of the expansive waterfront contrast with claustrophobic interiors. The film also includes an early film appearance by Richard Burton, featuring in scenes in and around the Landing Stage, Pier Head and Albert Dock.
