Wavy Handled Jar
Ovoid shaped jar with flat base and two wavy handles. Compare with Predynastic Pottery Corpus W.43. From the British School of Archaeology in Egypt 1910-11 excavations at Gezeh directed by Sir Flinders Petrie (tomb number not recorded). Marked in ink with the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 50/1956. Joscelyn Plunket Bushe-Fox was an renowned archaeologist and from 1920 was Inspector of Ancient Monuments. In his early years worked as an artist for the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, with Sir Flinders Petrie in Egypt (1909-1911). He acquired a small ranage of finds from this time, at sites including Gezeh and Memphis. Following his death his wife, Cicely, sold his collection of antiquities to the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1956.
