William Clayton, Later Lord Sundon
Three-quarter length portrait of a man wearing a brown [velvet?] coat with wide cuffs, a long white cravat and a powdered wig. His left hand rests on a low table slightly behind him and his right hand is tucked into the breast of his coat. In the lower right hand corner is a coat of arms, that of the sitter combined with that of his wife's family. It is just possible to see the sitter's cermonial sword at his left hip, mostly hidden behind the table.
