A wood at the side of a river

Information
Waterloo was mainly known for landscape etchings and views of towns he visited on his travels across northern Europe. Waterloo produced many landscape drawings with dense clusters of trees which filter light onto glades and pools.
The blue paper, which has faded from a deep blue, paired with Waterloo's use of white pigment and black chalk, highlights the effects of light and shadow reflected in the water.
