Zingara

LL 145

Information

This bust is one of many copies after the head of the full-length statue 'La Zingara' by Nicolas Cordier made between 1607 and 1612. 'La Zingara' means 'The Gypsy'. The original was in the collection of the Villa Borghese in Rome, before being purchased by Napoleon with the bulk of the Borghese antiquities and transferred to the Louvre. It consists of an antique marble torso to which a new bronze head, hands and feet were added in the early 17th century.
