This year's advent calendar features items relating to the First World War from National Museums Liverpool.
When the First World War began in August 1914 many people believed that it would be short. By the following year Liverpool families realised that this would not be the case.
This card, posted on Christmas Eve 1915 and addressed to Mr and Mrs Clay, Slater Street, Liverpool, carries a poignant message:
"Best wishes and Hearty Greetings.
With the Season's Compliments From Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Coole
For the past, Sweet Memories,
For the present, Hope,
For the future, Peace and Happiness."
This card, which is not currently on display, is from the Decorative Art collection at the Walker Art Gallery.
Other vintage cards from the collection are available to send as free Christmas e-cards.
