One of the highlights of 2016 was the opening of the Lady Lever Art Gallery's refurbished South End galleries. These include two Chinese rooms, with displays that demonstrate the importance and influence of Chinese ceramics on European art and taste. The Lady Lever's rich collection of Chinese ceramics includes 17th - 18th century porcelain, reverse paintings on glass, cloisonné and jade objects.
Some special items in the Chinese rooms are displayed at child-friendly heights for our younger visitors to discover, including this rather lovely colourful cat. This porcelain figure, made in the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong (1736-1795 AD), is entirely covered with a dappled glaze.
The cat also features in our Chinese language interactive - have a go and find out the Catonese names for some of the animals on display!
