George Melly

About this object

This photograph of George Melly was taken by Stephen Shakeshaft, photographer for the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo, in the 1970s.

"He was always a photographers’ dream, like Ken Dodd, because he was unpredictable in every way. He was a great showman and character and always had a wonderful story to tell. This was taken at a teddy boy festival in New Brighton held over a Bank Holiday. He liked being a teddy boy.”
Stephen Shakeshaft, 2009.

Previously on display in 'Liverpool People' exhibition, Conservation Centre, 2009-2010.
