Pete Burns

Pete Burns was born in Port Sunlight, Wirral in 1959 to a German-Jewish mother and a Liverpudlian father. Burns left school at 14 after being summoned to the head’s office for arriving with “no eyebrows, Harmony-Red hair, and one gigantic earring”.
Burns worked in Probe Records in Liverpool city centre, a local record shop that attracted many musicians, artists, and performers. Burns joined a band called Nightmares in Wax in 1979, which was renamed Dead or Alive in 1980, the year he married his wife, Lynne Corlett. In 1984 the band released their most popular hit, You Spin Me Round, which went number one in the UK in 1985.
Burns had a solo career in music throughout the 1990s and appeared on numerous television programmes, including Celebrity Big Brother 4. In 2006 Burns separated from his wife and married his partner Michael Simpson.
Burns died in 2016 following a sudden cardiac arrest.
