Opening ceremony at New Brighton open air swimming baths, 1934

Open air swimming pool. The seating and viewing areas around the edge are packed with people but nobody is in the water yet.

Zoom into the detail of this photograph

A formerly well known source of outdoor entertainment is captured in this photograph of the opening ceremony of New Brighton Baths. The reflections in the empty pool present a stark contrast to the crowds that filled it during its hey-day.

This photograph was commissioned by the Wallasey Corporation.
