The collections represent the personal taste of the first Lord Leverhulme. He began buying art in the late 1880s to use as advertising for the 'Sunlight Soap' brand that he produced. From this modest beginning Leverhulme quickly grew into a discerning collector.
Further information about how the collections developed can be found in the 'Lever the Collector' gallery.

The South End galleries at the Lady Lever are now closed until spring 2016 while we improve the galleries. This includes our Wedgwood and Chinese collection displays. Find out more about this exciting project and our future plans.
We are not able to display our entire collection at any one time. If you wish to see a particular artwork please contact the gallery before you visit to make sure it is on display.
You can see all the paintings in our collection on the BBC 'Your Paintings' website.
