'Barden Tower, Yorkshire' by an unknown artist

Accession number LL 3838

Watercolour, 24.6 x 33.5cm

Landscape painting with a distant tower and two figures in the foreground, one riding a horse, with two dogs

This is one of two watercolours displayed in the exhibition that were purchased by Lever as genuine David Cox paintings but have since been confirmed as forgeries.

This raises the possibility that the art dealer James Orrock was involved in forging works and that his dealings with Lever were at times less than honest.

It is by the same hand as 'Landscape with windmill and men ploughing' and has a very laboured signature.

Signature reading 'David Cox 1846'
