About this object

Jean Dessès (1904-1970) opened his first fashion salon in Paris in 1937. He was particularly known for designing evening wear in silk chiffon, with much use of drapery and full, flowing skirts. His clients included European royalty, society hostesses and movie stars.
This ball gown, made from an expensive pure silk and with a draped silk chiffon train, is typical of his work.
