Curzon Cinema, Prescot Road, Liverpool, 1936

Stewart Bale collection online exhibition

Art deco cinema building at night, as described in the text.

The Curzon cinema was the creation of the architect AE Shennan (he also designed the Abbey Cinema that is featured in another photograph in this online exhibition).

This night-time view of the cinema shows how the lighting enlivened its form, highlighting its many curves and tower; a modernist art deco creation, exciting and different.

Note the text above the entrance, ‘Lewis Oddy at the three manual Compton organ’.
