Contact Maritime Archives and Library
Please check out the online information sheets and frequently asked questions before contacting us as you may find your answer in these guides. Topics covered by the information sheets include how to trace your seafaring ancestors and shipping companies.
You can also search our collections online to find out which records we hold.
We do not hold:
- Passenger lists or emigration records
- Crew lists
- Official records of merchant seamen
- Official records of Royal Navy personnel
We recommend a personal visit to the archive and library. We are happy to answer enquiries about our collections but are unable to answer enquiries on maritime history nor undertake detailed research into the collections on your behalf. We are unable to provide valuations for items or collections. Please contact your nearest auction house if you require an item or collection valued.
The Maritime Archives and Library will close to the public for Christmas from 4.30pm on Tuesday 17 December 2019 and will not reopen until Monday 30 March 2020 at 10.30am, due to the closure of the second floor of Merseyside Maritime Museum as we prepare the new Life on board gallery.
Staff can be contacted via email and telephone during the closure period but will only have limited access to collections.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
