Pre-Raphaelites: Beauty and Rebellion
Tickets on sale from 8 December for the Walker’s major 2016 exhibition.
The Walker Art Gallery will present a major new exhibition in 2016, bringing together more than 120 paintings by leading Pre-Raphaelite artists.
Tickets for Pre-Raphaelites: Beauty and Rebellion, which runs from 12 February to 5 June 2016, will go on sale on 8 December 2015.
Through some of the most enduring and popular works of the period, National Museums Liverpool has worked with one of the world’s leading Pre-Raphaelite experts, Christopher Newall, to produce an exhibition which reveals how the Northern art scene rivalled London in Victorian England.
Paintings on loan from institutions and private collections across the UK will feature – many of which have never been on public display before – and key pieces from National Museums Liverpool’s own collections.

“It’s so exciting to see this wonderful exhibition come to fruition. For many years, we’ve planned to tell the story of the Pre-Raphaelites through a Liverpool lens and, with the help of Christopher Newall’s expertise, Pre-Raphaelites: Beauty and Rebellion achieves this.
“As part of the exhibition, we look forward to welcoming Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces from across the UK to the Walker, which houses a world-renowned collection of its own. The Pre-Raphaelite movement is an incredibly appealing one and we’re sure that our visitors will love the exhibition.”
The exhibition will examine the relationship between artists like Ford Madox Brown and Dante Gabriel Rossetti with their Liverpool contemporaries, collectors, and the institutions that welcomed them. It will also consider the patrons who commissioned art works, many of whom had Liverpool connections.
Accompanied by a full-colour 128-page catalogue, the exhibition will also present fascinating new research into Pre-Raphaelite painters and collectors in Northern England, through the legacy of the glorious artworks they left behind.
Tickets for Pre-Raphaelites: Beauty and Rebellion are available to purchase from Tuesday 8 December 2015, priced at £7 for adults and £5 for concessions. The exhibition is free to anyone aged 18 and under and discounted tickets are available for existing members of National Museums Liverpool and other selected groups.
New members joining National Museums Liverpool from 8 December 2015 until 12 February 2016 will receive a voucher which can be redeemed for free entry to the exhibition. New members joining during the run of the exhibition, 12 February to 5 June 2016, will receive free entry to the exhibition on the day of joining, or a voucher if joining at another National Museums Liverpool venue or online.
