A mounted print of a reproduction of Autumn Scene, Ishibashi Kazunori(1876-1928) drawing, ink and colour on paper.
After Katei’s death, his student Ishibashi Kazunori (1876-1928) left Japan for Europe bringing with him a large group of sketches – some by his teacher, some his own.
The elements of this design are traditional, but the horizontal orientation is relatively unusual within Taki Katei’s oeuvre. Particularly when submitting works to international expositions, Japanese painters had begun to adopt this approach, to fit in with Western expectations. The crossed maple trees and curving stream flowing towards us give the image a sense of depth.
The print has been designed and made in the UK exclusively for National Museums Liverpool.
