At the beginning of the 17th century, Everton probably had a population of no more than two to three hundred people. The numbers had swelled to five hundred by 1800 and the town took on the role of a holiday resort. In 1831, Everton's population totalled some four thousand, five hundred, and just twenty years later had reached twenty five thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.
Liverpool City Libraries, with valuable help from some of the residents of Everton today, bring you a fascinating look at the history of this age-old town, first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.
