Bush Peonies Mounted Print

A mounted print of a reproduction of Bush Peonies, Taki Katei (1830-1901) drawing, ink and colour on paper.

The bush peony is one of the most commonly encountered flowers in East Asian art. Due to the density of its petals, it symbolises wealth and plenty. Katei has painted the leaves in the 'boneless' technique using no contours; the pigment for the petals uses ground seashells, producing an opaque effect.

The print has been designed and made in the UK exclusively for National Museums Liverpool.
