Katie Roberts, Head of Events, National Museums Liverpool.
Katie Roberts, Head of Events, talks about the importance of creativity and passion in her role at National Museums Liverpool.
Katie Roberts leads a team of 50 staff, who deliver approximately 250 events a year, with private dining and Christmas celebrations showcasing the events portfolio. As well as delivering intimate events including private views and drink receptions, Katie and her team co-ordinate and promote the stunning spaces for corporate and private hire within six iconic venues at National Museums Liverpool.
Talking about her role Katie said: “This year I am attending IMEX Frankfurt
for the first time to promote our inspiring spaces to a wider audience of events and meeting professionals. We have a stunning collection of buildings within National Museums Liverpool from imposing neo-classical galleries to strikingly modern museums, each able to host exquisite private dining, conferences, drink receptions, product launches and exhibitions. It is an essential part of my role to promote awareness of our fantastic spaces, secure new bookings and build our presence in the Liverpool conference and events sector. I am passionate about not only delivering truly memorable events for our clients but also proud that all of our profits are gifted back to National Museums Liverpool to help support the fantastic work they do. We listen to our client’s requirements and understand the need to deliver each event as an individual and bespoke experience.
"Drawing on our expertise, we like to suggest ideas, to help each client tailor their event and ensure their objectives are met and delivered within budget. I love working with the diverse range of organisations and individuals. With every brief we are given our events sales and operations team work closely with our clients and have produced some really innovative details to enhance the events which may not have initially been thought of."
A career highlight for Katie was working with the team, to create and deliver a luncheon event for Her Majesty The Queen and 140 guests as part of her Jubilee celebration tour.
“Our team of chefs developed the bespoke menu liaising closely with the Royal Household, even taking a fishing boat out from the North Wales coastline to catch and then smoke the mackerel for the starter. There is often freedom to work creatively with the events team constantly striving to deliver an event more memorable than the previous one.
"To work in the events industry, you have got to absolutely love it. It will never be a nine-to-five job. You need to have that combination of organisation, creativity and passion. I love the speed of events and creating an experience that exceeds the client’s expectations and delivers service excellence. Hitches occasionally happen as it’s an unpredictable business, but it's about anticipating what could go wrong and correcting that situation quickly, keeping everything running smoothly and on track. I love seeing the end product, seeing people enjoying themselves and getting value out of an event we helped to create.”
