Man playing guitar Hear Flamenco guitar on gallery We can't promise you Spanish sunshine but we can provide the beautiful, evocative sound of Spanish guitar in a programme of free events for all the family, inspired by our latest exhibition, Picasso Linocuts from the British Museum. Flamenco (which as an artform includes  cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance), jaleo (vocalizations), palmas (handclapping) and pitos (finger snapping) orginated in Andalusia, Picasso's birthplace (Malaga). It was a form of music the artist loved. In performances on Saturday 16 July and 20 August, guitarist Glenn Sharp will transport you to Picasso's homeland as he performs a mixture of improvised flamenco and traditional Spanish classical guitar. Glenn has worked extensively in the European world music scene for more than 20 years and has studied with flamenco guitarists including Juan Martin, Paco Peña and Francisco Morales. In July he will also be accompanied by a Flamenco dancer. We're also very excited to have Frances Disley from the Bluecoat Print Studio over for demonstrations and workshops during the run of the exhibition. Frances will explore the various techniques and tools of linocut printing and discuss Picasso's unique approach. She will also lead workshops for (prebooked) visitors to have a go themselves. Exterior of gallery There are summer holiday activities for families Every Wednesday in August we will be inviting families to have a go at making their own prints. Children will be able to explore the exhibition and take a look at the colours and shapes that Picasso used, then make their own prints to take home and keep. There will also be talks by our own Xanthe Brook, Curator of European Fine Art about the exhibition and Picasso's innovative technique as well as the British Museum's  Jenny Ramkalawon, Curator of Western Modern and Contemporary Graphic Works for those who want to know more about this unique collection of work.
