Sonja demonstrating ceramic techniquesTo celebrate the Heritage Lottery Funded refurbishment of the south end galleries at the Lady Lever Art Gallery last year, we ran a series of talks and hands-on workshops, which explored the themes of our collection. These were hugely popular and as a result, we will be holding lots more free events over the coming months, which will offer something for everyone enjoy... We will be welcoming back a few familiar faces from last year’s activities along with some new talks exploring different aspects of the collection. Dave Moffat, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, will deliver a talk on 16 February exploring how the Ancient World influenced the designs of Wedgwood.  Dave will also investigate why aspiring young men of the 18th century immersed themselves in the culture and art of Ancient Greece and Rome. On 19 March visitors can get creative in a ceramic workshop led by Sonja Moss-Dolega, or a contemporary embroidery class inspired by the work from Fresh Perspectives: Art from Wirral schools, with Andie Riley on 12 March. A visitor, who took part in last year’s ceramic workshop with Sonja, said: ‘An extremely enjoyable class with both the opportunity to get creative but also with an educational/ historical background about the collections.  Great delivery with knowledgeable, helpful and friendly instructors, Thank you!’ Join historian John Michael Corfe to celebrate International Women’s Day with his illustrated talk on Emma, Lady Hamilton - A Reassessment on 8 March. You can also relax or try something new during Wellbeing in Museums week by taking part in our Tai Chi class on gallery with Huicong Lui, British Champion in Chinese Martial Arts from China Spirit on 6 March. Keep an eye on our what’s on pages for everything that is happening.
