Giving Tuesday is the International day of giving on 1 December, 2015
Today is #GivingTuesday. All over the world, people are helping raise money for important causes as an antidote to the start of the festive shopping season.
If you’re looking for a charity to support on #GivingTuesday, you might be interested in House of Memories. This is our dementia awareness training programme, which began in 2012 and has to date trained more than 10,000 carers across the county.
The programme is dedicated to enriching the lives of those living with dementia. The root of House of Memories is to acknowledge and understand that an individual’s personal history and memory is of great value and significance to helping them live well with dementia.
What began as a training programme for health and social care professionals, now includes a digital app, a memory suitcase loan service, a ‘buddy’ day programme for families and carers of people living with dementia, and an intergenerational resource for our younger visitors to share with their older relatives when visiting museums.
The My House of Memories App is a free digital memory resource for iPads and other tablets, which is the first of its kind in the world, and has been co-created by people living with dementia and their carers.
All this activity requires funding support, and this can be any donation big or small.
You can support the work that we do by making a donation, enabling us to develop the programme and create new memory activities and resources. Donations are welcome any day of the year, not just #GivingTuesday! Find out more about donating here, or for more information about how you can support the scheme, please contact the Development Office on 0151 478 4118.
Don’t forget that we’ve also launched our #AMemoryShared campaign, to raise awareness of sharing memories with our friends, families and those we care for.
We want to spread the message far and wide this Christmas; an ideal time to sit down with someone you love or care for to have a chat, create a special moment and share some memories to help enrich the lives of people living with dementia.
Please feel free to share your stories, memories and special moments with us through @house_memories using the hashtag #AMemoryShared
