There was a great article in the Liverpool Echo last weekend on the history of the John Moores Painting Prize. It included some fantastic archive pictures of John Moores competitions over the last 53 years. One that didn't make it into the article is the photograph below. The image is of the judging panel from the 1985 competition. The eagle-eyed will spot Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota on the far right. The winner that year was 'Oriental Garden' by Bruce Mclean.
There have been some fantastic judges for the competition over the years, including Jarvis Cocker, Germaine Greer, Tracey Emin and Peter Blake to name but a few.
Interviews with this year's judges reveal how the selection process works in 2010.
The exhibition opens to the public from 18 September to 3 January 2011.
