The John Moores Painting Prize is a major part of the
Liverpool Biennial.
Opening to the public on 5 July there are 50 paintings in this year’s exhibition. From the traditional oil on canvas, to acrylic paint on a crisp packet, the exhibition stretches the boundaries of paint. Radical, beautiful and challenging works cover a range of themes; with landscapes, portraits, abstract and sculptural pieces sharing only their medium in common.
Previous winners include David Hockney (1967), Mary Martin (1969), Peter Doig (1993) and most recently, Sarah Pickstone (2012).
