New visitor facilities at the Walker Art Gallery

Moving large painting Removing Haydon's 'Christ Blessing the Little Children' from the staircase Visitors to the gallery this week will have noticed the scaffolding on the left-hand staircase. Our handling team have been using this to help them take down the large paintings which hang over the stairs, as we have some exciting building work going on next door. In true ‘Location, Location, Location’ style we’re ‘knocking through’! Our old cloakroom will soon become a passageway to new  facilities for visitors and groups. From new spacious lockers to a lunch room for schools the changes will hopefully make for a more comfortable and enjoyable visit.   The paintings on the staircase need to be protected from the vibrations caused by knocking through the wall so have been taken off display until mid Feb. The Walker will remain open throughout the building work. If you want to follow our progress check out our Flickr gallery which we will keep updated.
