Joan presents Norman with his portrait

Artists often come to the Walker Art Gallery to be inspired by the world-class collection but recently a visitor to the gallery took her muse from an unusual source.
Legendary Eric’s DJ, Norman Killon, has worked on the Walker Art Galley’s front desk for twenty years and is the subject of a fantastic painting by Formby artist, Joan Corrigan.
Norman, who was unaware of the painting until Joan presented it to him, was delighted with the work which he reckoned “caught him warts and all”.
Joan says: “I always like to paint personalities, friends or local characters. I do hope 'our Norman' was not insulted when I classed him as a local character. I was surprised that being surrounded by all those visiting artists that he had not been painted before.
“It is brilliant that the Walker brings exhibits from all around the world to our own doorstep. It lets us either love (or hate) them but I find it great to examine how the old and modern masters did it."
