Takeover Day organisers from Weatherhead High School at the Lady Lever Art Gallery
The Education team at the Lady Lever Gallery have been working with Sixth Form students at Weatherhead High School as part of their leadership programme planning a Takeover Day on Saturday 19 November as part of a national event.
Takeover Day is a celebration of children and young people’s contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites. It’s a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff to participate in the life of the museum or gallery.
On Saturday 19 November, 1-4pm the Lady Lever Art Gallery will be taken over by Weatherhead High School. Students have developed a range of activities to appeal to all ages including painting, Model Magic creations and a treasure hunt. Dancers, musicians and Weatherhead’s own chamber choir will all be putting on show stopping performances throughout the afternoon.
Students, Tasha, Cerys and Amelia explained that they wanted to create fun activities for the Day which involved researching different ideas for Model Magic designs.
Students Letitia, Lydia, Theo and James said that as a result of planning the Takeover Day they’ve already learnt that, "it was good for improving social skills and there are a lot of health and safety considerations!"
Deputy Head teacher Rachel Byrne said,
"This is the second year that Weatherhead will be hosting a Takeover Day in conjunction with the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Each year, it has gone from strength to strength with our students developing their leadership skills and confidence in planning events and activities. We hope that the visitors will enjoy what the Weatherhead teenagers have to offer and we thank everyone at the Gallery for providing us such a beautiful space to take over!"
