Edward Onslow Ford, 1887 - 1889

WAG 4213

About this object

Peace is represented by a young girl with a dove and the palm branch of victory, standing on the armour of war. All the symbols are individually conventional enough. However giving them to a very naturalistic modelled nude young woman in an unusual and vivacious pose is an example of the new approach to allegory for which the 'New Sculpture' was famous.
