Ernest Gambart

Belgian-born art publisher and dealer (1814 - 1902)

Ernest Gambart was an important art dealer in Britain from 1840 until his retirement in 1871. He had originally come to England as a representative of the Paris-based Goupil publishers but quickly set up his own business. After his retirement in about 1870, his business was carried on by his nephews Charles Deschamps and Léon Lefevre.
