An introduction by collector and exhibition curator Frank Milner to 19th century Japanese print designer Toyohara Kunichika, the subject of our exhibition.

Outlining the designer's leading role in the design of hand-made Kabuki theatre prints, his images that responded to the competing reprographic technology of photography and his visual adaptation to currents of social modernity.
