To celebrate the exciting works on display in the Kunichika: Japanese Prints exhibition this summer, experienced printmaker Colette Whittington will be hosting a practical workshop in two parts, demonstrating how to make a Japanese woodcut.

Colette will guide you through the process of composing your own design, carving onto Japanese plywood, and printing onto Japanese rice paper.

The workshops will be inspired by Kunichika’s flamboyant characters, masks, and motifs from Japanese theatre.

No experience necessary, all abilities welcome.

This workshop takes place over two days, Thursday 30 June and Thursday 7 July, the ticket and price covers both workshops and you must attend both dates. The first day of the workshop will focus on design and cutting  and the second day will be finalising the cut and printing.

Tickets will be available to book via the link on this page from 1 April 2022.
