Wirral artist Wendy Williams has been commissioned to make a thousand handcrafted three-dimensional fish for a unique community art installation coming to Chester Cathedral in May. Leading the project, she will be travelling around museums, galleries, churches and community venues where visitors can learn how to make the fish and contribute to the piece.

The artwork will celebrate the launch of the new vision for the Diocese and the culmination of a twelve month consultation called, ‘Casting the Net Wide’.

Recycled materials, such as old calendars, magazine covers, wallpaper samples and card food containers are just some of the materials being reused to make the fish.

Visitors to the workshop will learn how to make a fish and can then carry on making them at home and the artist will arrange to collect the finished work a few weeks after the workshop.

As some of the cutting and folding can be a little fiddly, the workshop is designed for adults but older children are welcome to join in with the support of their grown-ups
