Do you see me? I'm here too.
To mark Learning Disabilities Week 2025 the Museum of Liverpool will be hosting the team from Mencap Liverpool and Sefton on this years theme, 'Do you see me? I’m here too', to explore and challenge societal views and barriers that come with having a learning disability, celebrate achievements, milestones and trailblazers, and recognise the individual, not the label.
Through interactive activities, information sharing, campaigns and achievements this event will showcase and celebrate people with learning disabilities and offer an insight into the history and hopes for the future.
The event will be co-delivered and co-designed with people with learning disabilities and is for all ages, families or local employers.
Come along and find out what you can do to be a part of the change towards people with learning disabilities feeling seen, safe and valued in their communities and make the world a more inclusive place.
The afternoon will include:
- Mencap Myth Busters: Busting common myths about people with learning disabilities, every person with a learning disability is an individual, not a label.
- I Need Easy Read Campaign: accessible information campaign. Access to information should be everyone’s right. Not being able to access information can affect education, employment, finance, health and relationships. It can be a barrier to independence and getting the information needed to make choices.
- Did you know? Facts and figures around learning disability statistics and history
- Interactive crafting, drawing and creating
- Information boards with further information and leaflets
- Video screenings of projects, campaigns and more
Mencap Liverpool and Sefton's vision is a society where everyone has equal access to the same rights and opportunities, where people with learning disabilities can live a safe, healthy and happy life filled with purpose, achievement, opportunity and friendship.
