Emerging Archaeologists

Museum of Liverpool Emerging Archaeologists (MoLEA) is an exciting opportunity for young people aged 16-24 to gain direct hands-on experience of their local archaeology through workshops and projects.

MoLEA will take place once a year during the first week of August. MoLEA provides members with the opportunity to develop new transferrable skills, practical hands-on experience and gain insights into archaeology.

Who can join?

Young people aged 16-24 who are not currently studying archaeology in higher level education but are interested in archaeology, heritage and museums.

What's involved?

Sign up is to attend all sessions, which include:

• Introduction to Archaeology  Monday 5 August 10am-3.30pm. Find out about archaeology, what is it? How do we find it? and learn about archaeology in Merseyside.
• Archaeology in the field Tuesday 6 August 10am-4pm. Field trip to Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve where we will find out more about Mesolithic Merseyside and take part in wet sieving with Prehistorian Ron Cowell and Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Transport will be provided leaving from Museum of Liverpool at 10am and returning to the museum for approximately 4pm.
• Fun with Finds!  Wednesday 7 August 10am-3.30pm. A day of hands-on discovery from Roman brooches to 17th century pottery. Find out what objects can tell us of the past with the Portable Antiquities Scheme & Museum of Liverpool curators. 
• Archaeology in practice  Thursday 8 August 10am-3.30pm. Find out more about forensic archaeological research with Face Lab from LJMU followed by some mock archaeological planning.
• Storing the Past Friday 9 August 10am-3.30pm. Join us behind the scenes as we journey through the Egyptology and Archaeology stores.
• Archaeology Futures Saturday 10 August 10am – 12pm skills for the future archaeology careers. Join archaeologists working in different ways to find out more about the range of careers which archaeology benefits.
