Join us for a fascinating in-conversation with renowned painter Graham Crowley, winner of the 2023 John Moores Painting Prize, and Bryan Biggs, Director of Cultural Legacies at the Bluecoat. These two long-time friends will engage in a wide-ranging discussion covering their shared passions and perspectives developed over four decades.

Bryan first encountered Graham’s paintings in 1982 when he organised an exhibition of them at the Bluecoat where he was gallery director. In 2017, knowing of Graham’s enthusiasm for Captain Beefheart, he invited him to take part in a panel discussion about the significance of this singular American musician and painter. An artist himself, Bryan shares Graham’s belief in painting as a discourse, a discrete practice that is enriched, and enriching, through its intersection with myriad ideas and experiences. Expect therefore a wide-ranging conversation about music, art schools, pop culture, class, politics and, of course, painting.
