Inspired by the Turner: Always Contemporary exhibition, this very special workshop series offers a practical introduction to the atmospheric art of mezzotint. Once celebrated for its ability to capture dramatic light and shadow, mezzotint was often used in the 18th and 19th centuries to reproduce paintings by artists such as J.M.W. Turner.

In this session, you will explore the expressive qualities of the technique, and guided through the process by artist facilitator Katie Lee. You’ll learn how to scrape and burnish highlights, experiment with tonal effects, and create your own small print to take home.

This session is designed for adults of all skill levels, and participants can either bring in their own images to reference in their design, or use pre-printed examples, with transfer paper available.

These workshops will take place on the following dates:
9 November 2025
7 December 2025
4 January 2026
8 Feburary 2026

Tickets are £30, and all materials are provided. Places are extremely limited so we reccommend booking early. Please note that this is strictly for ages 18+.
