Turner: Always Contemporary - Painting Short Course
No current dates available

If Turner were to make a painting today, what might it look like? What might have changed?
Drawing inspiration from our exhibition "Turner: Always Contemporary", this short course will explore how landscapes and contemporary art forms have evolved over time. In addition to enriching discussions about the themes in the exhibition, the course will allow participants to learn painting techniques and create an artwork as a contemporary response to Turner. The course will include:
- A curatorial talk and opportunity to meet Dr. Melissa Gustin, Curator of British Art at National Museums Liverpool and Curator of Turner: Always Contemporary
- A visit to the exhibition
- Discussions around key themes such as climate change, the artists influenced by his work, and why he is still relevant today
- A photography session to gain primary source reference material.
- The space, materials and support to build ideas and learn painting and composition techniques, led by a professional
- The opportunity to create a final piece at the end of the course.
The course will run over two weekends, taking place on 15, 16 November and 22, 23 November 2025.
This course is suitable for adults aged 18+, and is £120 for all four dates (concessions are available), and participants are expected to attend all four sessions to get the most out of the course. Tickets include all materials and entry to the exhibition.
Tickets will go live in August 2025.
