Write at the Museum is a monthly creative writing group for young people aged 16-24, where young writers can express themselves and explore their creative voices. Taking inspiration from our collections at National Museums Liverpool, we explore important topics that mean something to you. We are a relaxed group, who support each other and provide a safe space to discuss our ideas and creative work.

This is not a taught session, but is a facilitated space to explore ideas with a group, using the collections and their stories as a source of inspiration and discussion. We also provide opportunities through our Future Voices programme to share your work in an open mic setting. We meet on Saturdays once a month from 1-3:30pm. So, if you’re a young writer or a creative of any kind come along and reimagine the museum!

This month's theme is: The Grand Tour - Reframing Colonial Journeys

Join us at the Walker Art Gallery as we take a critical look at the “Grand Tour” and its legacy. In the 19th century wealthy aristocrats would travel across the world - their travels inspired countless poetry and artwork that provided distorted or exoticised interpretations of other cultures. These portrayals, shaped by colonial perspectives, were used as teaching material, embedding narratives that continue to affect us today. In this session, we will reflect on these depictions, and use this as inspiration to creatively reimagine how these stories might be told differently through writing.
