This tour looks at the materials used in building the City Museum and Library in William Brown Street. It will explain the symbolism on the Museum and College extension and the history of the buildings before and after WW2.

A building stone and sculpture walk looking at the materials used in the construction of World Museum, focusing on the decorative features of the building and the 1896-1906 extension. The tour will look at the changes made to the original museum building to make good damage to the building caused during WW2.

Children over the age of 11 are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

Please note the tour goes into secure areas so it will not be easy to leave the group until the tour has ended.

Access Information

This tour will use several staircases within the building. Wheelchair access can be provided but will mean a slight separation from the main group until we can reconvene in the area of interest.

Max 20 people per tour. Walk takes around 90 minutes.
