  • Note
Droop commented that the head had a raised surface round the chin with no attempt to show the hair of the beard by modelling and this could be an indication that colour was used for that purpose and compared to a parallel from the metopes of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia. Droop believed this to be a specific of style confused by Archaistic tendences by delibaretely reversing to the manner of an earlier age. The siff spiral curls belonged to the 6th century BC but the deep setting of the eyes in the manner popularised by Scopas of the 4th century BC. The treatment of the hair is naturalistic and Drooped believed the head not to be earlier than 350 BC. The round shape of the head very different from any of the other examples in the same collection.
