Disc Shaped Lid

About this object

Ivory disc with engraved decoration. The central medalion decoration is of a lozenge formed out of 4 pairs of volutes or semi spirals. The spaces between each pair are filled with two long triangular leaves. A band of thin circular lines frames the central medalion along the body of the disc and a similar band is on the edges of the lid. The space in between these two bands is filled with short tiangular leaves. The disc is probably the lid of a circular box and many of its fragments are missing. The disc is in several pieces which have been joined together and fixed to a perspex mount. One piece has come loose of the mount.
